Yet recently something changed. Instead of steadily, passively consuming action entertainment, I slow began to notice details in the performances. That there was a rhythm to the smackdown and a narrative amid the brawl. Each fight telling a mini-story within itself or serving as a necessary scene in the larger story.
I began to pay better attention and wanted to learn a bit more about my entertainment, both the story conveyed on stage and the work behind the curtains. And then I wanted to communicate and share my observations and thoughts about fight choreography in entertainment.
So I decided to create the Medium Punch blog.
But I’m not all that concerned by reality in fight choreography, especially compared to real fighting. We should already understand that fictional fights have as much accuracy to reality as any work of fiction: varied to nonexistent. So allow the choreography some artistic license and enjoy the spectacle.
I know I do.
